BEKEL
Bekel
is a traditional game from Indonesia. Bekel
games are usually played by girls, but there are also boys who join in playing bekel. Bekel can be played alone or in turns, but bekel is a type of competition game. To determine the order of
players, it is usually done through suit
or hompilah. To play bekel, it takes 1 rubber ball with a
size of 3 cm in diameter, usually this ball has a contrasting and attractive
motif. Then, it takes 6-10 biji bekel
which are usually made of metal or plastic, the four sides of the biji bekel have a striking difference.
The upper part has a small red dot commonly called a pit, while the lower part is called a ro, in the flat side there is a sign or point, while the opposite
side will look smooth.
The bekel game starts by bouncing the bekel ball, then proceeding with sprinkling of biji bekel. When the ball bounces, players will take biji bekel that are spread one by one,
then two and so on until they take all the biji
bekel according to their level. After completing picking beans, the player
must change the biji bekel into a
certain form before being taken. The position sequence is a pit (shape like a chair), ro (opposite the position of the pit), cin (sloping position without a point on the surface) and peng (position with spots on the
surface).
If a violation occurs
such as the ball bounces more than once, the ball is not caught, the biji bekel is not stable, incorrectly
positioned the biji bekel and wrong
in the order to pick the biji bekel,
then the game is continued by the next player. The winner is the one who can
reach the highest stage. It takes the right technique and strategy to play bekel, this game can also train the
child's agility and skills.
